Wash Day

Mum has been to stay for another two weeks since we last spoke and went home earlier in the week, I have been catching up with washing and pottering in the garden this last few days, hasn't the weather been wonderful? I am so enjoying the heat wave we are having in England, it's so nice to be able to paint furniture outside, peg washing out, sit and drink tea while listening to the birds.

I mentioned last time that Mum and me had brought home lots of linen table cloths and here they are hanging on the washing line enjoying the sun after a hot soak, an every day tablecloth with embroidered flower baskets and a beautiful  the white one with deep crochet edging.

Two more with cottage garden flowers all around...

Delphiniums and daisies.... washed and washed over the years until lovely and soft..

I also found a huge one covered in Spring blooms, tulips, daffodils and anenomes which I just love and feel very lucky to have found it folded up in a basket at the back of a charity shop, you just never know what you are going to find... all that work for a few pounds just doesn't seem fair does it? it's hours, weeks, months of someone's life being put into every stitch... it will be loved here in our little cottage and then in years to come it may be found at the back of the charity shop and will make someone's day like it did mine.

These laced edged Victorian cloths I found last year but didn't show you, I just found the picture and thought I would add it for you to see, there were eight altogether, white washing looks so lovely against a blue sky doesn't it ?.

The white tablecloth with the deep crochet edging in the first picture is laid on my table below, you can see the two birds crocheted on the top.

I'll leave you with a bouquet of flowers that my dear Mum kindly bought for me while we were out and about in town, pink roses my favourite's.

Oh and Happy June!

Will you join me next time for more tales and goings on from Shingle Cottage?

XxX

  1. Your linen cloths are so lovely. I have a coupe that were my grandmothers and one that is still sitting in the sewing basket waiting to be finished. It must be 60 years old and I will finish it one day to pass on to my daughters. I love seeing washing on the line. So many people these days use dryers. Hope you have a lovely day.
